Gathering advanced materials becomes essential for expanding your floating base as you survive the vast open ocean in Raft. One of the most important resources for late-game crafting is wool, which is required to make armor, backpacks, and cold-weather gear. Obtaining this material requires a shift from passive ocean scavenging to active land exploration and animal husbandry.

Tracking and Capturing Llamas

Wool cannot be found floating in the water or harvested from standard island flora. Instead, you must locate and capture llamas, which are rare terrestrial animals that spawn on large tropical islands. Exploring these large landmasses requires a radar and coordinates obtained through story progression.

To successfully capture a llama, you need to craft a net launcher and specialized net ammo using your research table. Once you spot a llama grazing on an island, aim carefully and fire the net to immobilize the creature. This allows you to safely interact with the animal and carry it back to your raft.

Setting Up a Livestock Pasture

Transporting the llama back to your floating home is only the first step in creating a sustainable resource loop. You must construct a secure enclosure using fences to prevent the animal from accidentally wandering into the ocean. The creature also requires a reliable food source to stay healthy and productive over time.

Build grass plots inside the enclosure and water them regularly using fresh water to grow sustainable feed. Llamas consume the growing grass continuously, and keeping the plots watered ensures they never run out of food. If an animal starves, it will stop producing the valuable resources you need for crafting.

Harvesting and Utilizing Wool

Once your captive llama is properly fed and settled into its pasture, its coat will grow thick over time. You must craft a pair of metal shears at your tool bench to harvest the material safely. Approach the fully grown animal with the shears equipped to collect the soft fibers.

The llama will gradually regrow its coat after each harvest, providing a renewable source of clothing materials for your journey. You can use these collected fibers to craft heavy armor sets that offer superior protection against dangerous predators. Additionally, expanding your inventory capacity with advanced backpacks becomes possible once you have a steady supply.
